The reception is free to attend and open to the public, hosted in the upstairs gallery, where The’shima will be on-site to discuss her work! Light snacks will be provided; coffee, cocktails, and wine (by the bottle) will be available for purchase.
The’shima describes herself as an interdisciplinary artist. She has a bachelor’s degree in illustration and a master’s in fine arts. She works primarily using acrylic paints, gouache, and ink. The’shima’s work often has a narrative quality that focuses on ideas of childhood, identity, and social politics,
The’shima has created a nature series to feature at the Catfe. She explains, “This body of work emerged while mourning the death of my grandmother . It started when I went to visit my childhood home (my grandmother’s house). It was knocked down so it's now just an empty lot surrounded with trees. And even though there's no longer a house there, there's still a gentle suggestion of the one that once occupied that space. This body of work touches on nature and its connection to home and a feeling of belonging. It creates a portal between those intimate pieces of nature and places I've been, and some that I've never even seen before. It touches on a brief history of a few places I've been while capturing other moments that feel either similar or familiar.”
