ABOUT US
Gem City Catfé opened January 2, 2018 after a year of construction on our historic building located in St. Anne’s Hill Historic District. Our property, built in 1885, was originally a side by side duplex and had some commercial use throughout the years, including a plumbing supply store. Our new layout features three areas: the cat lounge, the cafe seating, and the upstairs art gallery space. We have separate air systems for the cat lounge so that even people with allergies can visit.
Gem City Catfe was started to advocate for rescue cats and animal welfare with a new approach. We wanted to create an approachable and enjoyable atmosphere that would be welcoming to those new to the rescue scene as well as educational for others looking to get more involved. Our cat lounge is home to 18 adoptable, feline friends from our 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue partner, Gem City Kitties.
Our full service espresso bar which serves fair trade coffee, tea, bakery items as well as wine and cocktails. [See our full menu here]. We also have a separate art gallery with additional seating upstairs with plenty of large tables to spread out and for activities like coffee brewing courses, TNR Certification workshops, and available for private rentals.

WHY A CAT CAFE
In the united states:
3.4 million cats enter animal shelters each year
1.4 million cats are euthanized
70 million cats are strays or ferals
we can make a difference.
Cat cafés create win-win situations. People get a super cool place to hang out with cats. Cats are able to avoid being in a shelter, socialize, and find families.
