PURRISTA ROLE

Purristas complete a wide range of tasks at Gem City Catfe with a close-knit team. This job is for you if you like: cats (doi), advocating for animals and sharing resources with customers, making coffee and cocktails including sharing ideas for seasonal specials, getting discounts on cat-themed merch, creating a space that makes everyone feel welcome, and providing a little cheer for everyone that comes in. Perks include: unlimited Meowrville cuddles, Mr. Baby high fives when he feels like it, finding families for homeless cats, and tons of caffeine!


SCHEDULE + COMPENSATION

Hourly rate is $14 - $17, including tips. Base pay starts at $11 - $14/hour, with tips guaranteed at least $3/hour. Tips are supplemented if they are under $3. We have one full-time opening, requiring at least 30 hours per week. Must be available to work Tuesday - Saturday closing shifts, which are 1:30pm - 9pm. Gem City Catfe is closed July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. The position is ready to be filled immediately. Full-time staff members receive paid vacation and sick days. This is a key-holder position requiring shift lead duties.

At least 21 years of age and a high school diploma or GED are required, as well as 1 year of experience managing others in customer service, or a related field. Experience in food and beverage sales or animal care is a bonus but not required.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a representative of the Gem City Catfé and Gem City Kitties and ensure all visitors, animals, and staff members have a positive experience in an inclusive environment.

  • Interact with customers and coworkers in a positive, outgoing, and friendly manner

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and exercise good judgement when interacting with members of the public

  • Utilize excellent communication and organizational skills and carefully monitor the workspace with attention to detail

  • Greet customers, take food and beverage orders, and complete orders in an accurate and efficient manner

  • Prepare and serve cold and hot beverages, prepared food, and wine and cocktails to Gem City Catfé standards

  • Sanitize work space environment, utensils and equipment, as well as coffee bar station and sitting area

  • Stock supplies of retail space and customer service stations

  • Conduct daily opening/closing operations including cash drawer and deposit management

  • Ensure proper functioning of equipment and checking dates and time of food and beverage supplies for quality control

COFFEE + Customer Care


CAT CARE

  • Responsible for feeding, watering, grooming, medicating, enrichment, and exercising of onsite cats

  • Clean and disinfect animal kennels, floors, walls, litter boxes, toys, and dishes

  • Wash, dry, and fold laundry

  • Maintain cat areas to be free of animal waste and debris consistently throughout the day

  • Identify and report medical problems or concerns to Cat Care Coordinator

  • Provide helpful and educational guidance to potential adopters in a friendly, positive manner while promoting responsible pet ownership

  • Provide behavior and health information about each individual adoption candidate

  • Assist in the day to day operations, such as answering telephones and email, inputting animal data into CRM, and greeting customers in a courteous and professional manner

  • Maintain cat lounge areas as clean and tidy

  • Answer questions about the adoption process with our nonprofit partner, Gem City Kitties

  • Finalize adoptions for approved adopters and maintain records and paperwork in orderly fashion


REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires ability to stand, kneel, and bend for long periods of time

  • Requires ability to lift and stock items up to 25 pounds

  • Requires ability to learn and maintain knowledge of products and procedures

  • Ability to keep calm demeanor and work under pressure during peak business hours

  • Must be comfortable with all breeds, sizes, and temperaments of on-site cats

  • Must be willing to assist with handling and restraint of on-site cats

  • Ability to carry heavy objects and supplies to and from cat areas

  • Exposure of cleaning agents

  • Exposure to possible animal scratches or bites when handling animals
